Complex surf conditions, reduced to one usable decision

ShouldISurf is a Taiwan surf decision tool for beginners and progressing surfers. It combines wave height, period, wind, tide, and spot characteristics in one conservative assessment to help you decide whether to go today, where to go, and which window is relatively suitable.

What we provide

Each assessment leads with a conclusion, then keeps the forecast values, reasoning, and limitations visible. ShouldISurf is a pre-trip decision aid, not an on-site observation or a guarantee that conditions are safe.

Where the data comes from

Wave height, direction, and period come from Open-Meteo Marine; wind and weather come from Open-Meteo Weather; tides use forecasts from a nearby Taiwan Central Weather Administration station. Live cams name their original providers. Spot facing, seabed, suitable swell, and tide preferences are maintained separately as static profiles.

Who is responsible for the content

ShouldISurf maintains the decision logic, writing, spot profiles, and data integration on this site. Upstream forecasts, tides, and footage remain subject to their original providers. Model output, field-checked information, and unverified information are labelled separately.

Updates and corrections

Forecast assessments are recalculated when forecast data changes. Content dates change only when spot profiles, methods, or wording change materially; we do not change a date alone to make content look fresh. When an error is found, we prioritize anything that could affect safety decisions, place identification, or source attribution.
